Responsibilities
  • Promote professionalism and interact with colleagues in a way that fosters a cooperative working environment.
  • Ensure specimens are obtained in accordance with laboratory guidelines.
  • Demonstrate proper communication skills to relay pertinent data or information about the patient or laboratory sample to the appropriate care provider.
  • Support organizational priorities to maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Attain required competencies and follow procedural directions and protocols.
  • Assist in workload prioritization and organization to maintain productivity.
  • Follow proper protocols for specimen packaging and transport.
  • Responsible for specimen accessioning as assigned.
  • Demonstrate proper infection control practices, patient identification, and perform timely specimen transport.
  • Perform drug screen collection and processing as assigned.
  • Answer laboratory department phone calls.
  • Recognize emergent conditions and react appropriately.
  • Provide phlebotomy services professionally and in a patient-centered manner.
  • Engage in self-evaluation for practice improvement.
  • Retain accountability for the quality of care provided to the patient.
  • Promote service excellence and laboratory growth.
  • May collaborate with multiple departments within the laboratory or across the hospital/health system.
  • Perform arterial puncture as assigned.
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Basic computer skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited phlebotomy/medical assistant program with clinicals or previous phlebotomy experience.
  • Experience working in a clinical setting.
